Is it not time that Judges are elected, so as when they make judgments like those by Mr Justice Sullivan, they can be sacked. I think it would concentrate their minds on the job they have, if they knew they could lose it. Does anyone agree with me.

it seems to me blueboy that some times the decisions that judges make are political, take mr Justice Sullivan for instance, every decision he has made has been controversial and angered Blair and co,i believe this is because he wants to annoy and make it look like the governments fault. All rather dangerous if it is true because he has to protect the public, and he is clearly failing his duty, political opinion should not be involved in handing out justice.

Sorry blueboy, i got carried away on Nick's blog. Have you heard the latest...

The 13-year old Somali girl who slashed Shanni Naylor across the face was cleared of wounding with intent after the jury heard that women from Somalia often settle disputes by scratching each other's faces.

Un-F*****g- believeable!

It would just set up another dirty corrupt system blue, where judges and the people responsible for sacking them would all be buddy buddy in each others pockets, protecting one anothers interests, thats how it all works mate, just like the people who investigate the police.

Dizzyfatplonka, What about them having to put themselves up for election every 4 years, then it would not matter if they had buddies in the system, we could vote them out, do you think that would work.

No blue thats never going to happen, it costs fortunes to train and educate yourself to became a judge.
Its a very privilaged post that is not easily come by, folk would not gone to all that bother if you could only last 4yrs.
All it requeres is proper laws and sentences for the judges to enforce and then let them do the job, thats given that we consider them as having the right to judge others in the first place.
If they had harsher set guidelines to go by though then we would not have this shame of a system we see today.
