I hope you like the photo today, I don't watch a lot of news on the bbc, in fact i don't watch a lot of anything on the bbc, most of the time i watch sky tv, but i was even disappointed with them with the coverage they gave to the conflict in the middle east. It seems if you watch all the news coverage, that Israel is to blame for the conflict, nothing about the arabs or Iran or Syria. Iran is the real cause of the trouble as they have called for Israel to be wiped from the face of the earth, you can not have peace with people who think like that.We need a balance in our news coverage, not the one sided view we are getting at the moment.

Well said.

I visited Israel once and also deal with a number of Israelis for business reasons. My impression was and is that the Israelis are far from war mongering maniacs. Everybody I talked to wanted to see a peaceful solution and only favoured military intervention as a last resort. When you neighbours who fire rockets at you and blow up your buses and restaurants then, with the best of intentions, you cannot pursue peaceful negotiations. All Israeils I met were dignified and civilised, quite the opposite of most Muslims.

Being nationalists and claiming our country for ourselves, we must also allow other nations to claim their countries for themselves. Israel is the country of the Jews. It was taken away from them by the Romans and since then the Jews have lived scattered across many parts of the world. Israel is an attempt to put right to this wrong. The Bible gives them the right to reclaim the land they believe God promised them. And even if you are not religious, there is plenty of historical evidence to support that Jews came from here.

What the Israelis have done to this small piece of one once barren desert is amazing. Groves of fruit trees and even forests now stand where there were once only rocks and stones. Hard work by people who came with nothing has made this land rich. This cannot be shown better than by agriculture. Many of the people who tend the trees and pick the fruit are Arabs from the surrounding Palestinian territorries. They must know a lot about agriculture seeing they work there all day. But do you think they use their knowledge to plant trees in their own country? No. They prefer to point at Israel and claim they are poor because they are oppressed. See the pattern here?

Something else I experienced in Israel is the amazing solidarity. everybody helps everybody else. This only works because it is a closed ethnic community and everybody does their part. This in turn makes them richer. It is an example for every other nation. And this is exactly why the liberal left wants to see Israel destroyed. Israel is the living proof that a country founded on ethnic and natinalist principles can and does work.

Maybe we should look for strengh in our old commonwealth, but back the opposing faiths to Islam that are having their own troubles and have done so for much longer than us, like India, they are realising im sure the mistake they made with Gandi when they snuggled up to muslims to oppose us.

good picture blue,i like it.The BBC has a rule that they cannot be biased towards anything political etc....obviously this is over looked these days.Regarding Israel, you cannot blame them for reacting like they do,you imagine being surrounded on all sides by hostile countries, very frightening indeed, all they are doing is looking after their people, nothing wrong in that,it`s a pity we have not got the same courage,GO GET EM ISRAEL!.
